$27.280 - $34.100 - $40.920The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
Must be matched to the Sharp Grossmont Hospital 2025 to 2026 Pharmacy Residency program.
What You Will Do
To be provided the training to accelerate growth and competence in patient care, practice management, and leadership skills in pharmacy practice; and as part of the training, to provide the professional, clinical and technical knowledge, and skills and expertise required for the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care that supports the mission, values and philosophy of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) ACPE accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
- Other ASHP Accredited PGY1 Residency
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
- California Pharmacist License - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED
Other Qualification Requirements
- Must obtain California Pharmacist license by November 1 of year hired.
Essential Functions
- Clinical responsibilities
Demonstrates competency in performing clinical consults, advisory services and patient monitoring.
Has met minimum certification requirements as outlined in the Pharmacy Certification Process For Formal Pharmacotherapy Consult and Advisory Services policy and procedure. Advisory services include antibiotic surveillance and renal dose monitoring.
Achieves good patient and pharmacoeconomic outcomes through active participation in Drug Utilization Evaluation, Renal Target Monitoring, and Adverse Drug Reaction programs. Identifies, resolves and documents prescribing, formulary and therapeutic issues through integration of patient variables, clinical status, drug knowledge, and professional judgment. - Demonstrates initiative and accountability
Adheres to departmental dress code and adheres to attendance policy.
Models professional attitude and conduct at all times. Performs additional projects in consultation with pharmacy management and accepts accountability for timely follow-through and completion of assignments.
Shows initiative by suggesting and working on performance improvement initiatives related to the practice of pharmacy. - Practice responsibilities
Medications are prepared and dispensed accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with recognized standards of practice, legal and regulatory requirements, and hospital pharmacy policies and procedures.
Participates in Emergency code response throughout the hospital (Code Blue, Code Stroke, Code STEMI, etc.) Provides clinical assessment, treatment recommendations and prepares medications as needed.
Meets all required job competencies including age specific. - Clinical leadership services
Consistently participates in clinical, process and quality improvement projects/initiatives that align with the Sharp Pillars: Quality, Safety, Service, People, Finance, Growth and Community.
Participates in ongoing data collection for MUE’s. Participates in formulary management through participation in formulary review’s. Follows up on formulary compliance issues and/or communicates issues to management.
Actively participates in staff meetings and attends or give inservices. Participates in advisory groups, multidisciplinary teams and committees, focus groups, task forces or other designated activities as approved by Residency Program Director that will further the practice of pharmacy at the site.
Participates in hospital and system committees related to clinical specialty area of PGY2.
Guiding the development of evidence-based treatment protocols, algorithms, and/or clinical pathways that are congruent with nationally accepted practice guidelines and quality indicators (Core measures).
Assisting in the development, implementation and assessment of various technologies used throughout the specialty area of PGY2 medication-use process (Cerner). - General Residency responsibilities
Demonstrates full commitment to the residency program by treating it as a full-time obligation and by completing the educational goals and objectives established for the program. Achieves the broad educational outcomes determined for the program site.
Develops competence in the many aspects of patient care and practice management and making full use of the evaluations of the preceptors and self-evaluations. Participates in the assessment and evaluation processes for each learning experience, and quarterly evaluation processes. Patient care includes evaluation of patient status and drug therapy, screening of drug orders, dispensing medication, drug information services to physicians and nurses, precepting pharmacy students, and providing consult services. Practice management includes participation in the formulary process, drug use policies, establishing the residency program, safe medication practice programs, performance improvement efforts and departmental goals.
Satisfactorily completes an appropriate residency project. - Research and teaching responsibilities
Take a leadership role in clinical research and the teaching programs of the Department of Pharmacy Services, both at the site and system level, as they are related to the clinical specialty area of the PGY2 program. Participates in providing didactic and experiential training in Clinical Pharmacy for clinical pharmacy residents, students and interns. Provide staff development support to nurses and physicians.
Actively participates in clinical research projects resulting in presentations and/or publications.
Provide presentations, publications, and other informative activities on clinical specialty area of the PGY2 program and other drug-related topics to the health care community and general public. Maintains awareness of contemporary trends in the profession through the professional literature and regular attendance at professional organization meetings, institutes and seminars. - Regulatory and Safety
Participates in attaining compliance with the National Patient Safety Goals as demonstrated by saving and forwarding orders/examples to management or designee (i.e. of no VO/TO completed, no prohibited abbreviations, use of "resume all meds", etc.).
Participates and assists in the collection of medication tracer audits or collection of individual elements from the tracer tool.
Participates in medication safety initiatives.

- Demonstrates age specific competencies subject to the age specific populations served by the entity where practicing.
- Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations, professional ethics, and standards of practice.
