$42.790 - $55.210 - $61.840The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
The Workplace Accommodation Specialist is responsible for administering and coordinating the reasonable accommodation process in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), applicable state laws, and organizational policy. This role partners closely with employees, leaders, Human Resources, Leave of Absence, Recruitment, and other areas as appropriate to facilitate the interactive process, evaluate accommodation requests, and identify effective, compliant solutions that enable employees to perform the essential functions of their positions.
Required Qualifications
- 3 Years Experience administering reasonable accommodations, ADA interactive processes, employee relations, or leave management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Other : ADA related training.
- Experience in healthcare or a highly regulated environment.
- Experience working with accommodation review committees or cross‑functional HR teams.
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) - HR Certification Institute -PREFERRED
- Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) - HR Certification Institute -PREFERRED
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) - Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) -PREFERRED
- SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) - Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) -PREFERRED
Other Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or 4 years of experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related may substitute for the degree. - REQUIRED
Essential Functions
- Reasonable Accommodation and Interactive Process
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee reasonable accommodation requests.
Lead and document the interactive process, including reviewing job descriptions, physical demands, essential functions, and medical documentation.
Evaluate accommodation requests to determine feasibility, effectiveness, and compliance with ADA and organizational guidelines.
Identify and assess potential accommodations, including job modifications, schedule adjustments, equipment, ergonomic solutions, and alternative work arrangements.
Prepare Interactive Process Memos, accommodation plans, agreements of restrictions, and related documentation. - Medical Documentation and Case Review
Review Reasonable Accommodation Questionnaires (RAQs) and related medical documentation for completeness and relevance.
Coordinate with Leave of Absence or designated vendors to clarify medical restrictions when appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality and ensure information is handled in accordance with privacy and regulatory requirements. - Stakeholder Partnership
Collaborate with managers and Human Resources team members to assess operational impact and accommodation feasibility within departments.
Partner with Talent Acquisition resources when accommodations cannot be implemented in the employee’s current role.
Provide guidance to leaders on ADA obligations, the interactive process, and accommodation implementation. - Documentation and Compliance
Ensure all accommodation decisions, approvals, denials, and alternative options are clearly documented.
Maintain accurate records in case management systems and employee files.
Support audits, compliance reviews, and reporting related to accommodation activity. - Education and Process Improvement
Educate employees and leaders on the reasonable accommodation process and expectations.
Identify trends, risks, or systemic barriers and recommend process or policy improvements.
Support standardization of forms, templates, and workflows related to accommodations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of ADA, FEHA (or applicable state law), and employment compliance requirements.
- Strong documentation, analytical, and case management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, neutrality, and professionalism.
- ADA and reasonable accommodation expertise.
